The Ken Saro-Wiwa Story | Greed, Betrayal and the Battle for Nigeria's Oil Money
Просмотров 229 тыс.2 года назад
Of all the casualties of the unholy post-war alliance between the Nigerian military state and big oil, the Ogoni people were arguably amongst the worst hit. With the full blessing of the Nigerian government, the Royal Dutch Shell oil company was authorised to explore and extract oil from Ogoniland. While this was a win-win deal for Nigeria’s military generals and the oil giant, Shell’s entry in...

As far as African dictators go, there is probably no single greater illustration of the nuances and complexities that underpin dictatorships in Africa, than Joseph Desire Mobutu’s 31 year stint, as the leader of the nation known today as the DRC. A self-proclaimed anti-communist who modelled his entire state apparatus after China’s chairman Mao. A self-styled African revolutionary, who collabor...

Kwame Nkrumah: The Story of Post-Colonial Africa

Long before the likes of Thomas Sankara, Robert Mugabe and Nelson Mandela burst onto the international scene as the faces of anti-imperialism in Africa, one man stood head and shoulders above his peers as the leading political voice and the very embodiment of Africa’s struggle against colonialism. Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, took the world by storm as he led his nation to become ...
A Brief History of Liberia and Africa's Iron Lady | Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

With its rocky history of violent civil wars, military coups and strongman warlords, very few outside observers would have expected the Republic of Liberia to be the nation that would produce Africa’s first ever female head of State. Referred to as Africa's ‘Iron Lady’, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf made history in January 2006 when she was inaugurated as Liberia’s first female president. Sirleaf’s ele...

The Biafran war is a story that shouldn't be left out of history. It is very unfortunate that History, as a course in most Nigerian schools are no longer allowed making the children in this contemporary generation unaware of their past and all about their nation. Children should be taught about the history of their nations, parents should also play important role in achieving this.

I am an African Girl. Stunning documentary. Apartheid was in itself socialistic. African people no matter their colour are neither dumb nor very smart. You soon realise this as a teacher in a multilingual country. South Africa is still very much divided and many political parties have failed us with empty promises. I know poverty well. I have lived amongst them and been one of them, however like Jesus Christ I serve the poor and whom people claim to be the scrap of South Africa. A life of poverty drives crime abuse of drugs and fellow human beings. A good book to read is Alan Patton's Cry the Beloved Country especially for the unborn children we cry.

Though I have so much appreciation for the work done to bring this documentary to us, I hope people will understand the enormous pressure and challenge Nkrumah had on his shoulders in trying to enlighten people who had been under colonial rule for years. His desire and vision to unite and develop Africa was not seen by his peers and so frustration set in and he started doing the unthinkable. No one is an angel.

This video should be included in schools. I have always known that this country Nigeria is not a real place because of the gross lack of genuine love hearing Ahmadu Bello speak is no different from what is currently happening. It is very sad and because foreigners are benefiting it is only up to Igbos to save themselves…. Ojukwu should have aligned with Yorubas first before embarking on the war secured Russia or any strong alliance at the time because we know that Nigeria was never fair to the south….. I strongly believe that Nigeria is better off Together but with regional form of government…. Northerners are scared to lose the easy wealth they have and will continue to kill to keep it. Yorubas decision to split is what will divide or bring a new Nigeria and I hope it happens when I can witness it. Niger Delta is in a mess yet they have the Nations wealth. Until Africa starts to help themselves they will never grow why will African leaders first call for help will be Europe or America no other continent does that and that’s why we are very far behind. Greed is the root of all this evil

Here’s the problem with Rastafarian belief system, 1. Selassie does not fulfill any of the prophets description of the coming messiah. 2. Jesus already came decades before Selassie, Christianity , Judaism and the events that were proclaimed in Daniel had already taken place. 3. Selassie is a mere mortal birthed by a man and woman. 4. I've read quite a number of comments and it's not difficult to understand everyone's point of view.. i believe the best way forward is to understand the root cause of the problem and face reality while proffering a solution. Generally African leaders in the past have always been gullible while proffering solutions in times of conflicts (sorry to say) and the colonial masters have always capitalized on that to further divide a promising continent to this day. If we continue to lie to ourselves then a house divided against itself will never stand.. This is an excellent way of telling the people the truth.. In the future I wish many more of us will always search for the truth in order to understand the beginning of our problems so as to proffer worthy solutions rather than just take sides and join this unnecessary conflict. (My opinion)
